It's interesting to me that you are so quick to defend the name of Christ and yet use the threat of Karma, clearly an unbiblical principle, on the members of Westboro. Could you explain this please?

Westboro Baptists leadership has chosen an effective marketing strategy for the propagation of hate. Their leadership is a confused family stumbling reveling in their publicity and generating strong feeling of disgust for their abuse of Christian values. In other societies which did not offer freedom of speech they would be subject to violence and strong repudiation for their ill will and malice. It sickens my soul to see the heart of Jesus Christ used be a church of hate. To hurt innocent people to propagate a message of hate is wrong. Best to ignore these low lifes who besmirch the name of Christ and let karma seek them out for the maggots they portray under the spell of publicity.

This organization called Westburo Baptist Church was created to show people that say they are christians how hypocritical most of the clan that claims to follow Christ is. Most Christians spend their time talking about certain types /sin the most, while keeping other types of sins on the back burner and not talked about as much. Christians choose in their minds acceptable sin versus unacceptable and unnatural, but they will never admit that to you or themselves because to admit such would be a sin, but do they clearly not realize lying is a sin as well. It's clearly obvious that Westburo is NOT REAL, why ? Because, they will give you a clue by telling you their mission isn't to win souls for Jesus, but yet people usually Christians get angry and try to talk to these people, when the joke is on the Christians. Maybe this is a lesson on God's very own Church. His church professes they want relationship with Him, and not religion, but yet all they do is throw the law around, they're either obeying it and judging others for not obeying it, or they're not obeying it and judging others for not obeying it enough. And if you preach you're not under the law AT ALL, then maybe you should read about when Jesus said, i did not come to abolish the law, but rather fulfill it. Something to think about for your sinning Christians.

Well, once again the bad fruit of Westboro Baptist Church manifests itself in mockery, cutting words and general arrogance. Shirley Phelps-Roper, in her capacity as the de facto spokesperson for WBC, is a disgrace to the words "Christian" or "Baptist".

Thanks for your work in exposing this cult. And you did it not by debating but by simply asking questions and allowing Ms. Roper to show us what she and her clan are all about.

I've read the WBC website regularly over the past few years (I'm not sure why I do it; I always come away angered or saddened), and I've come to the conclusion that these people don't practice what they preach (i.e., obedience to the Word of God).

The Bible tells us that:

1. God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked (Ez. 33:11; also see Ez. 18:12). Yet this "church" regularly demonstrates its delight in the fact that sinners die and go to hell.

2. We are to speak to and treat everyone with respect (1 Peter 2:17). Just read a few of the blogs on this site, and you'll see a steady stream of name-calling, insults, and belittling from a group of people so blinded by their hatred that they are incapable of preaching the gospel or speaking to others the way Peter, John, Paul and others did.

3. We are to do everything through the power of the Holy Spirit, and not "in the flesh" (too many references to list). Yet this clan does nothing but spew hatred and fleshliness.

4. We are not to celebrate at the calamity of others (Prov. 17:5). Yet the vilest of these people's "celebrations" come when death or disaster strikes a people or people-group. It seems the more tragic the event, the more delight they take in it. (i.e. "Thank God for Dead Children")

As a follower of Jesus Christ--one who, by the way, is saddened and angered at the open sin I see around me, as well as he pride so many seem to take in it--I am embarrassed at the attention this cult receives and saddened that so many people associate them with true, biblical Christianity.

J. Smith,

Granted there is a problem with the proper preaching of the law in many churches today. Churches all too often capitulate to sinful culture.

But, the preaching of the law must have it's proper place. To continually preach condemnation without also proclaming that Christ is a willing and sufficient Savior for sinners, is to adhere to nothing more than the leaven of the scribes and Pharisees. In John 3, Jesus likens his mission to being lifted up just as the bronze serpent was in the Old Testament. Any Israelite who was bitten (by snakes sent by God as a judgment) could look at the pole and be healed. So likewise any sinner condemned by the law who looks to Christ for forgiveness and an alien righteousness is saved from wrath.

To leave that out is to do the devil's work.
