People, plleeaassee! When did being excited about a book/movie become a target for christians?? I am a christian all my life and never would I put anything/anyone above my Lord Jesus Christ. Stephanie Meyer is a fabulously gifted author and the film industry was smart enough to put her writing into film. In this series, there is NO nudity, NO cursing, NO sex, NO racial comments, NO blood and guts gore. If anything, it is a tender love story interwoven with fantasy, drama, action and a very talented cast. And this is bad because?????? However, for fans to go nuts over movie stars, characters, football and baseball, even is more of an abomination to our Lord because we are to give all our glory to Him. Anytime anyone goes to the extreme of worshiping anyone or anything other than God is wrong. So get a grip on your philosophy, rhetoric and scholarly psychology and just read the series of books or go see the movies. Then you will see that it's interesting, fun and the stunts and filmmaking that went into the series of movies is worth appreciation. Maybe you should put all your energy into anti-war marches, conservation causes and something to actually benefit humanity instead of tearing down christians. Let's put our focus on where it should be and that is standing together as one in this increasingly evil world without morals. Live life and savor every minute!

Personally I struggle with watching evil shows on TV. I find a lot of my Christian friends not having issues with Harry Potter and Twilight. Christians don't see what they watch as wrong. I work as a movie extra and sadly I help bring things like Harry Potter and Twilgight to the screen. It is because Christians want to see them so I have to work them because I need the money. I was on True Blood. And If True Blood needs me again I won't turn it down and if it was Twilight or Harry Potter I would still take. Christians don't understand that when you go and see a movie you are telling Hollywood that you don't want the Passions you want Twilight. And sadly they are amking Christians in the industry have to sin.
I am not going to say that working on them doesn't bother me, because they do. There was one movie where I struggled, this was a por-wiccan film, that just bothered me for about one year that I worked on. I would love to lie and say that we pick the movies ourselves, sorry it doesn't work that way. My calling service picks them for me and I have to be there or get black-listed. The funny thing is that Christians pay to see it, but I am the one that get accused for working on it.

When we ask the question I believe the battle is lost. There are so many other good forms of media to watch. Philippians 4:8!
Pure? Lovely? Praiseworthy? I don’t think so…

....i agree with mark's comment. i struggled with watching this series and the true blood tv show, and this verse is what finally made it click with me. i'm a grown woman; i have no plans on becoming a vampire, lol! but it's true that this kind of obvious poison can, over time, erode your mind and give the evil one a foothold into your soul. God loves us and understands our human limitations. he knows how sly satan can be; even told us that evil can appear to be lovely! that's why he told us not to dabble in things like witchcraft and magic. if your parents tell you that doing drugs is bad, are you going to go to a party 'just to have fun' and 'watch' other people do drugs? and honestly not be tempted? or at least have conflict in your soul?
i have christian friends who thoroughly enjoy these vampire series. i just told them simply that i wasn't interested in watching them anymore. i didn't lecture them about their choices. i care for them, and while i worry about them, each person must account for their own actions when they face the Lord.
the very fact that you are reading this page, beloved, is a sign that the Holy Spirit is working in your heart! i pray you will hear His voice :)
with love,

Since the Twilight series are books... fictional I might add. This brings to my mind a question. Are all types of fiction (fantasy related) bad to read? I am a Chrisian and a school teacher. What do I do if the students must read fantasy fiction for a grade? - state standards must be met. Must I risk my job? I do not think fantasy fiction is bad, unless you take it to heart. Shakespeare uses a ton of supernaturalism and other fantasy related usage, that teachers must teach according to state standards.
I personally do not think it is wrong for me to teach fictional fantasy.

I think as christians we need to remember that we are to be set apart from the world. I think the above explantion describes it perfectly. We are light and stuff like that is dark. As a believer I want to fill my head with God and His word. Our hearts are wicked and we need to guard it. It is easy to fall into the cares of this world. Lord forgive us for straying from You

BTW, Pastor Josh, you mentioned a while back that we have to be careful to not take the liberty of interpreting each scripture personally, as we want to see it. The problem with that is if various Christians didn't have differences of opinions of the interpretations of the scriptures, then there would not be so many denominations. Look at how some Catholics, some protestants, baptists and pentacostals view this matter. Heck, even an array of differences of opinions within the same denominational bodies. I think it will always be that way, and that is why I think posts like this provoke the various responses you've gotten here- it comes off a bit condescending when through the way you explain your view of it, that it is the only view and therefore implies those that disagree somehow are not obeying Romans 12:1-2, or loving God as they should. I really hope you understand what I'm trying to explain, I am sincerely saying this out of love and all due respect.

It is definitely not about losing salvation, Pastor Josh is right. The view that by watching and reading fiction involving any kind of magic means we are not loving God and disregarding his scriptures and choosing to be conformed to this world is something I think many Christians including myself will continue to agree to disagree on. I do not believe reading and watching this kind of fiction conforms me to the world or causes me to love God any less. It is storytelling, used to convey an expression of some sort. We learn alot about ourselves and about those around us through fiction and fictional metaphors. Worldy or not, stories are just like everything else in this world- some good, some bad. We need to evaluate and latch on to the good and dismiss the bad. We do not condone what God does not condone. This does not make us "of the world", but we still have tot live in it. To be oblivious to things we can learn from certain stories can cause us to miss out on so many various ways God can speak to us and move in our lives. I think this view of the scriptures is extreme, but I can say that I'm personally thankful for fellow believers who watch out for one another and speak in love for things they feel convicted about. This is what we need to do for one another, regardless of our differences in opinion. God bless you, Pastor Josh and thank you for caring about our spiritual health and walk with the Lord.

Peyton,

It's not about losing your salvation - it's about obeying Christ. If we love Him, we will keep His commandments.

We should desire to do: Romans 12:1-2.

Not to be rude, but i think some of you are WAY too into this. It's entertainment and I really just don;t believe that a book is going to take me away from God or lead me into any witchraft practices or anything like that...I listen to metal and i read and watch these movies and I love God with all my heart. I'm not any less of a christian for watching these. I'm pretty sure God's not going to take my place in heaven away because I watch a few movies about vampires or listen to hard music.

I am young and read twilight and other vampire books. I don't think reading these books bring us to portraying witchcraft. It's mainly about forbidden love. Ans there is a witch in many little children movies like, "Sleeping Beauty" and the "Barbie" movies. These movies actually teach the little children to stay away from evil.
