Dr. Lawson is president and founder of OnePassion Ministries, a ministry designed to bring about biblical reformation in the church today. He is also the Senior Pastor of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama, having served as a pastor in Arkansas and Alabama for over thirty years. Dr. Lawson is providing a great conference on expository preaching in Atlanta – May 20th-22nd. This conference will be extremely beneficial for pastors, future pastors, and current teachers within the church. Dr. Lawson is a passionate expositor who loves preachers and enjoys preaching God’s Word.
About Dr. Steven Lawson (@DrStevenJLawson):
Dr. Lawson is the Professor of Preaching in the masters and doctoral programs at The Master’s Seminary, where he also serves on the Board of Directors of The Master’s Seminary and College in Sun Valley, California. Dr. Lawson also serves as a Teaching Fellow with Ligonier Ministries located in Orlando, Florida, where he lectures as a Visiting Professor in the Doctor of Ministry program at the Ligonier Academy. He is also on the board of Ligonier Ministries.
Dr. Lawson is a Council member of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and serves on its Executive Staff. He further serves on the Council for the Samara Center for Biblical Training in Samara, Russia.
The primary focus of Dr. Lawson’s ministry is the verse-by-verse exposition of God’s Word, which has made him a regular speaker at The Shepherd’s Conference, Ligonier National Conference, the Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology, and other conferences. His preaching has taken him around the world, ministering in Russia, Brazil, Ukraine, Scotland, Wales, England, Ireland, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, Italy, and South Africa. His sermons are posted online and listened to in all fifty states and over one hundred countries.
The state of the church across the board stands in desperate need for passionate expository preaching that lifts people to the heights of praise. Sound doctrine is a missing mark in modern preaching. Dr. Lawson, in his book titled, Famine in the Land, writes the following:
“A new way of ‘doing’ church is emerging. In this radical paradigm shift, exposition is being replaced with entertainment, preaching with performances, doctrine with drama, and theology with theatrics. The pulpit, once the focal point of the church, is now being overshadowed by a variety of church-growth techniques, everything from trendy worship styles to glitzy presentations and vaudeville-like pageantries. In seeking to capture the upper hand in church growth, a new wave of pastors is reinventing church and repackaging the gospel into a product to be sold to ‘consumers.'” 1
The church would benefit from healthy instruction on how to rightly divide the Word of Truth. Dr. Lawson will spend May 20-22 of 2013 on the campus of Reformed Theological Seminary in Atlanta providing the proper steps to biblical exposition. This will be a good conference to take teachers within the church along with the pastors who oversee and shepherd the church.
